Abstract:

To aid policy development, we evaluated changes to risk through time in dissimilar communities that are expanding into fire-prone areas, which conventional wisdom states would contribute to escalating losses. We utilized multiple GIS strategies to spatially analyze changes to risk based on characteristics of community wildfire exposure and characteristics of individual structures, including roofing material, defensible space, and house density.
